Sharing your knowledge - based on you

💬 How Do You Talk to Your GP About Hormones?

Worried about raising hormones with your doctor—especially if they're male? You’re not alone. But here’s the thing: gender doesn’t determine compassion or knowledge. Some of the most supportive, hormone-aware clinicians I know are men. And yes—some women still don’t believe in perimenopause (I know!).

But most healthcare providers genuinely want the best for you. And the truth is:
When you're well managed—on the right treatment, feeling better, with fewer symptoms—you'll need to see them less often and experience better health outcomes.

That said, many GPs are cautious. They're under pressure not to miss anything. And MHT hasn't always been presented clearly in past guidelines.

So go into your appointment ready to share your story. Say:

“I’ve been reading about hormone therapy. I think I might benefit. Here’s why…”

You’re not demanding—you’re inviting a discussion. You’re showing them what’s important to you, and how they can help.

And yes—it’s okay to say:

“I really appreciate that you care about my whole health. But is it possible to consider hormone therapy alongside my blood pressure/insomnia/night sweats?”

You deserve a conversation grounded in mutual respect, curiosity, and care.
And for many people in perimenopause, the benefits of hormone therapy really do outweigh the risks.
So what’s the harm in trying?

This lesson will bring together resources for you to work through to help you get the best support for your needs, and of course as soon as possible!!! (But not too quickly... because quick increases of MHT do worsen side effects!)
